Dental Crown Costs
How Much Do Dental Crowns Cost?
Materials Used in the Crown
Crowns can be made from a variety of materials that range in price. Porcelain crowns are a popular option for this kind of dentistry because they're virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth, but our dental office in Nashville, TN, offers IPS® e.max and IPS® Empress, which are known for their natural appearance and durability. However, using these materials can result in a more expensive crown.
Preparatory Work
Your tooth and gums must first be healthy enough to support a crown. If your tooth has severe decay, your dentist may first have to perform a root canal before your crown can be placed. If you have gum disease, that will have to be treated, as well.
Same-Day Crowns
Our office offers same-day dental crowns to patients who qualify. These dental crowns can be milled in about an hour with our CEREC® machine. Though the crown itself costs the same as a traditional crown, a temporary crown and follow-up appointment to place your permanent crown won't be necessary and therefore don't have to be factored into your overall cost. Your dentist will determine if you qualify for a same-day dental crown.
Dental Implants
Not all crowns require implants, but if you want to completely replace a missing tooth, roots and all, a dental implant will be required. The industry average for a single dental implant in the United States is between $3,000 and $4,500.
Additional factors in determining your overall cost include:
- Geographical location
- Dentist experience
- Sedation options
- Insurance plans

Dental Crowns
Dental crowns can be considered cosmetic or restorative. If your crown is recommended to simply improve your appearance, it's considered cosmetic dentistry and your insurance won't cover it. However, if your crown is necessary to improve your oral health, it's considered restorative dentistry and your insurance plan will contribute to the cost.
Our Nashville, TN, office accepts a wide variety of dental insurance plans and our staff members will work directly with your insurance company to get you the most coverage possible.
Dental Implants
Dental insurance plans won't cover the cost of dental implants, but since implants can last a lifetime and they're the only restorative dentistry treatment that can prevent atrophy in your jaw after tooth loss, they're worth the investment.
To help you with any out-of-pocket costs, our practice works with CareCredit®, a financing company that allows patients to pay for their dental treatments in affordable monthly installments.
